Which is why we need to make sure our customers are aware of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). Global warming, air pollution and public health have never been of more importance and with the toxicity of London's air pollution rising, people's risk of heart and lung disease increasing, and cases of asthma growing, steps had to be made to improve the air quality in central London. That arrived last April in the shape of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). It operates in the same area as the Congestion Charge and applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year (except Christmas Day).

Here at Loads of Vans, we have previously shared information on Euro 6 emissions standards which are aimed at reducing harmful pollutants, in particular nitrogen oxides (NOx). These standards are now the benchmark for all newly manufactured cars in the UK and compliant cars will be exempt from ULEZ charges. However, non-compliant vehicles travelling in the ULEZ can expect charges starting at £12.50 per day. These can be as much as £100 per day for heavy vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Over time these fees can really add up. For example, a light van travelling into London every day that is not Euro 6 compliant will incur a £12.50 fee per day which equates to £62.50 per week or £3,250 per year. This is a serious hit, particularly for the likes of self-employed tradesmen.
