How Does Contract Hire work?

Contract Hire is the process of a customer/business hiring a vehicle for an agreed duration of time and makes regular monthly rental payments. The customer/business does not own the vehicle, it is the lender who owns the vehicle and who are responsible for any associated risks. Once the contract period has concluded, the vehicle is then returned back to the the lender. 

Contract Hire Example

A company agrees a 48 month contract hire deal on a Renault Kangoo van with an annual mileage of 8,000. After the upfront payment they will pay a monthly fee of £329 + VAT for the following 47 months. As the company are VAT registered, they will be able to claim back the VAT on the monthly payments. Once the contract has expired, the van is returned back to the lender.
